Marriage Services include Public and Confidential Marriage Licenses, Civil Ceremonies, and Deputy Marriage Commissioner for a Day.
Dissolution of Marriage information can be found at the Superior Court. Copies of Public Marriage Certificate can be requested with the Assessor-Recorder; Copies of Confidential Marriage Certificate can be requested with the County Clerk.
In order to promote social-distancing safety measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Newsom has authorized California County Clerks through Executive Order N-58-20 (as amended by N-71-20) to provisionally issue marriage licenses and conduct ceremonies by videoconference. The San Francisco County Clerk is offering pre-paid online reservations for these services.
In order to complete this process couples will need reliable, high-speed internet access, a mobile device with MS Teams software or a computer with an up-to-date browser, and audio-visual capabilities (i.e. microphone, speakers, and webcam). Couples must be physically together and located in the State of California during the appointment.
